Interview with Edoardo Baraldi

NOTES BETWEEN CREATIVITY AND CONSISTENCY

I was born in 1943. From an early age I dreamed of being a painter such as Dix or Magritte. As I matured at the Politecnico in Milan, I believed for a moment in the Lecorbusierian brutalism and in the postmodernism by Aldo Rossi. I opened my eyes later and now I feel a touch of shame for being an architect.

Ten years ago I replaced pen with mouse and since then I have been “manipulating” images.  Human figure  always attracted me, for I am a representational painter and my references are certain works by Wood or Tooker.
For some time I have been editing short videos dealing with a particular subject. Some of them are appearing in Google. I contributed to the satirical online magazine “Pippol” which has, both untimely and unaccountably, now disappeared. At present I am giving my contribution to the satirical insert in the daily “Liberazione” (but is it allowed to satirize to 360 degrees in a party’s newspaper?) My works are exhibited on the Internet (Cartabianca in Undo.Net, “girodivite” and “l’erroneo”).

I try to keep my creativity’s little flame always burning – that is quite all-important for me – by taking hints from everyday life, political events, travel notes.
I believe in the fact-finding irony and try to help people flush out the particular awkwardness that the market system narcotizes.
Which book do I prefer? This is like the quizzes about candidates for the recurrent elections. There are books I think of and some others I forget, sometimes I even buy the same book just as I don’t remember it’s already in my overfull bookcase.

Books such as “Das Unbehangen in dei Kultur” by Freud or “Town and Revolution” by Anatole Kopp were the making of my development. Then I like “Livro de desassossego” by Pessoa.

My considerations about read are good for music too: from Bach to Tuxedomoon…
I have difficulty in appreciating the twelve-tune music by Schoenberg or Nono and I struggle with poetry in spite of the efforts of my friends Marilde and Marcella.

Meanwhile I’m going on placing “baits” in the Internet hoping to establish contacts with some net-surfer, for I need incentives and checks. I would surely enjoy exhibition of my works in a dedicated space (instead of in a virtual one) that is equipped with screens projecting my shorts, while I stand watching the impressions they create in people.

I would like to contribute to newspapers and magazines much more, even to “Blob” on the third Rai’s channel. “Why not?” But, unfortunately, one always needs a baron, one  has to choose the right moment and overall one must be able to come forward.
Well, I am unfit for promoting myself.
Maybe I don’t want to do it so much.

Moreover, I don’t want to sacrifice my consistency.
